Struggling

When you are sick you do not want to move. When you are sick you do not want to eat healthy. When are sick you are a baby. I am no longer sick and yet all of these things apply to me. I am working a changing things in my life. I think I could pull a South Beach thing and loose a bunch but I want my weight to stay off. I am trying to change my ways. I am trying to right now just not eat after 8pm and drink more water. I haven't necessarily lost weight but I do notice I am not starving in the mornings which has helped me eat better then. I am really just wanting us to be HEALTHY not skinny and having Robert talk smack and Liz encourage helps a ton. So all of us need to keep at this and support one another in HEALTHY CHOICES. share Ideas, pics and recipes. Lets not let our goal be a better us fizzle out with January. I am now going to add to my list of changes walking 30 mins 2 times a week. I know it seems small but it is what I can do. GOOD LUCK!!

Week 2 Report

I am down to 231 as of this morning....but disturbingly we have two scales in our house with vastly different results.....One scale  (Call it official) had me at 241 last Friday 1/11 and at 231 today 1/18.  I didn't try our second scale until Sunday and its showed be at an alarming 247 and at 241 today (clearly that one must be broken) at any rate I will stick with the original scale for the sake of consistency.  One week of South beach under the belt.....still far too much over the belt.

Red Lobster does a body good!

Yep ate at Red Lobster this week and now I'm at 215.5 .... ok ok 197.5.  Oh well!
Greetings from Maryland.....I am at 237 today and Pakavanh is at 146.  Two notes, I have created a simple excel spreadsheet with columns for weekly entries and all the names of those signed up to date.    I posted this on dropbox and send you all a link where we can all update the same document each week.   Let me know if this is too much.

One other note.....if you use g-mail, you can just go to the setting of this blog and and yourselves as a contribute.....saves you the hassle of signing in each time.

Pakayvanh and I are both trying the South Beach diet.....has worked for me every time I have tried it....down 5 pds the first week.  The challenge is sustaining it......especially in the face of the bannana bread Pakayvanh made yesterday  (not a bite) and at the delicious chocolate cake she made for Isabelle's birthday today  (one big bite.)

Gordon
Becky and Steve are on vacation, so they asked me to post their weights for them.

Becky - 226.2 and Steve - 234.8

My weight for this weigh in is 180.  Surprised I lost even that pound.  We went to Phoenix for two days and ate one of our meals at Culvers...boy did I enjoy that food and frozen custard to much!  Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Robert was an angel and got my Wii Fit board working so hopefully tomorrow I can get busy on working out.  I haven't done very well with it and I keep using Adah and the cold weather as excuses.  Plus, I like food to much to cut back on it as much as I need and I am technically eating for two still.  : )  This accountability should help to!  Love you all!

Love, Tricia

$ for weightloss

So I am down 3.5 lbs this week--although admitedly that is probably just water weight so far. Justin and I got our Bountiful Basket this week and have been trying to put more vegetables and fruits into our diet. We even tried making "Green Smoothies" with spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, watermelon, banana and pineapple which were pretty tasty.
This morning Justin was telling me about this website that he heard about that pays you to lose weight (and not in a pyramid scheme way). It has been recommended on Consumer Reports, Time Magazine, and quite a few news stations. You can check its validity here for yourself, but I just thought the concept behind money as a motivator was interesting. Not sure that I just have $300 just laying around to try it, but I am sure it works for some.
Hope everyone else's progress is going well!

Toxic Hunger

Happy Friday everyone,

Dr. Oz had an episode recently about toxic hunger.  You should be able to view video clips at doctoroz.com.  You might find it interesting.  His guest has written a book about diabetes and healthy eating.

We do have diabetes in our family history, most of us have sweet teeth, and some of us have Polycystic Overian Syndrome, which is classified as a "pre" diabetic condition.

My blood sugar has always been fine when I've tested at the doctor, but I am pretty susceptible to sudden drops (usually after a carb heavy - not necessarily sugar - and protein low breakfast or after too long without eating) where I suddenly feel ravenous and shaky and I can eat a whole lot before I start to feel stable.  Hopefully the library will have his book - though it may be too new.

Hope you all find some way to stay active on this cold weekend.
Love,
Liz

Choice

I was listening to a Zig Ziglar CD today and he said that when he was overweight, it was by choice - - - that he never ate anything that he didn't choose to eat.

This is a tough concept for me, because I feel like I have tried, and tried, and tried to lose weight and be fit - but nothing works for me.  Truth is, nobody forces me to eat anything (not since Mom and Dad made me sit at the table until I finished cooked carrots!).  I suppose I need to accept responsibility before I can believe that I have the power to change.

Just my musings for the day.  Driving to Ganado tomorrow so I'll probably have some more Zig isms for you.

To Health!
Liz
